Tart cherry, is a species of Prunus in the subgenus Cerasus (cherries), native to much of Europe and southwest Asia. Tart Cherry Extract Powder is a popular ingredients in food supplements.

Sour cherry extract has been reported to be a source of the sleep-regulating chemical melatonin, so some people take them to improve the quality of their sleep or to combat insomnia.
